Here are some of the things to be considered when getting your livestock ready for the trip:
-All livestock MUST be healthy and up to date on applicable vaccinations.(Livestock will be on board with other animals from various farms and areas, unless you have contracted us for a "dedicated haul" where yours are the only animals on board the trailer. - We maintain a "no touch" policy on board where stock is transported in separate stalls with solid walls and can't touch stock from other farms...)
-For grass/hay fed livestock – Gradually cut back on supplemental grain amounts as they will be less active on the trailer ride. (We prefer not to feed grain on the trailer – it makes the stock “hotter” than necessary.)
-Gradually add “stress aid electrolytes” to their water so that different water sources on the ride will all taste the same. We use "StressAid" by Manufacturer: Vétoquinol - a Vitamin and Electrolyte Water Soluble Powder for Poultry, Swine, Cattle and Horses. It is available at most feed supply stores…
-Provide enough hay/feed for the trip.
-We suggest feet trimmed, have long tails braided, body clean and dry.
-We suggest a blanket on horses in the colder weather unless they have a thick winter coat and are currently housed outdoors in the cold without one…
-Health Certificate (ONLY if CDN. Provincial or U.S. State or Stable Required).
-Negative Coggins Test (ONLY if CDN. Provincial or U.S. State or Stable Required).
-Brand Inspection, Ear Tags, Livestock Manifest, Import Paperwork (ONLY if CDN. Provincial or U.S. State Required).
-Any additional paperwork, registrations, manifest etc. in a clearly marked envelope.
-Adequate Shipping Halter as needed (NOT a breakaway) & Lead Rope.
-Any tack or accessories being sent along should be securely packaged. Make sure that we are aware of them when booking the transport to have the space reserved on the trailer.
-Proper access & Parking area for truck & trailer - snow cleared etc...
-Safe Loading and offloading area as required.
-Extra Manpower/Livestock Handler to load and offload as required.
-Other as needed:(ie: any special medications, etc.).(Shipping boots are NOT recommended.)
